School’s Back. You’re Still Tired. Let’s Fix That.

There’s something about late August that feels like a collective shift.

Whether you have kids heading back to school, your commute suddenly filling back up, or you’re simply feeling the calendar tighten again, this is the moment when structure returns and the pace picks up. Summer’s looseness gives way to schedules, sometimes abruptly.

And that’s exactly why this issue exists.

Inspired by Parks and Recreation’s iconic Treat Yo’ Self philosophy (thank you, Donna and Tom), this issue is a reminder that rest and small indulgences don’t have to be earned, they can be planned. Especially right now.

This has become a bit of a Valley Verve tradition. This year, we’re mapping out a low effort, high reward indulgence day in Simsbury and Canton. It’s been designed for parents, non-parents, and anyone who could use a softer landing back into routine.

Morning: The Coffee Spot — Simsbury
Start your day somewhere that encourages lingering. The Coffee Spot is the kind of place where you come for caffeine and accidentally stay for the vibe. They regularly host community events and pop-ups, so it feels like more than just a quick stop. Order your usual…or don’t. You’re off duty today.

Late Morning: Simsbury Town Shops
This is roaming territory. No mission, no pressure. Just slow browsing and seeing what catches your eye.

  • Kindred + Crew – women’s clothing that feels current without trying too hard

  • Simsbury Yarns – soothing even if you don’t knit

  • Wine Etc. – because future-you deserves something nice

This is the stretch of the day where you remember what it’s like to move at your own pace.

Lunch: Corazon Tequilero  — Simsbury

Bold flavors, strong drinks, and zero rush. Order something indulgent, enjoy the atmosphere, and resist the urge to check the time. This is not a grab and go moment.

Afternoon: The Home Place CT — Canton
Part gift shop, part treasure hunt, part instant mood booster. Expect décor, skincare, fashion, books, and small finds you didn’t know you needed until you saw them. This is the stop that quietly resets your nervous system.

Late Afternoon: At the Rooftop  — Canton
Head up for a well earned cocktail and a view. Once you’re settled, order dinner while you’re there because you’ve already committed to not cooking, and this is the smartest version of that plan.

💌 Spread the fun! Forward The Valley Verve to friends who love discovering the Valley.
