Hein Farm: Fireflies & Farm Trucks

If you’ve driven down Meadow Road in Farmington and haven't pulled into the gravel lot at Hein Farm, consider this your official nudge. While the land has been farmed for 200 years, the current era, under local landscape designer Jennifer Woods, has turned this 22-acre slice of heaven into the ultimate farm experience.
Jennifer took over the "farming torch" from David Hein in 2020, and she’s spent the last few years proving that "stewardship" isn't just a buzzword. She’s preserved the legacy while adding exactly what a modern Valley resident wants: great vibes, organic methods, and zero pretension.
The Daily Ritual: Why We Stop In
You don't need a special event as an excuse to pull over. Hein Farm is a staple for the weekly routine because it functions as a curated "Best Of" CT Farmer's Market. * The Stand: They know no single farm grows everything perfectly, so they supplement their own organic crops with top-tier goods from other local farms. It’s the one-stop shop for local veggies, honey, and baked goods.
The August Shortlist: Mark Your Calendar
August is the farm's "Golden Hour." If you’re looking for a reason to actually leave the house on a humid Friday, here is the homework I did for you:
Story Time at Hein Farm Friday, July 31 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Join the Farmington Library for an hour of farm stories, music, and a quick tour. It is completely free, zero registration required, and designed with the 2 to 5 crowd in mind.
Firefly Fridays August 7, 14, 21, and 28 | 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
The antidote to a long work week. Think live music, food trucks, and farm sunsets that don't need an Instagram filter. Admission and parking are free, and you can cut a bouquet of zinnias while you wait for your dinner.
6th Annual Summer Farm Festival & Art Fair August 15 & 16 | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
A focus on local artisans alongside the Greenhouse Tavern Food Truck, and a massive plant sale (pro tip: Jennifer’s landscape background means these plants actually survive our CT winters).
💌 Spread the fun! Forward The Valley Verve to friends who love discovering the Valley.
