Sign Up Now, Hunt for Eggs Later
I know, I know, it’s barely March. But consider this your friendly heads-up: town Easter egg hunts are coming 🐣
Registration is already open in Farmington, and West Hartford opens sign-ups on Wednesday, March 4. Both towns use age based time slots to keep things fair (and prevent toddler–teen turf wars).
If other towns announce hunts, I’ll share those too; I’ve got my eye on it.
Spring is clearly plotting. Keep reading to find out what’s happening before the eggs hatch...
Like I said last week, we have to believe spring is coming, so let’s keep that going. If we’re truly coming out of hibernation (fingers crossed), another thing we can tackle is spring cleaning. Let’s finally get rid of old clothes, books we’ll never read again, and that kitchen gadget you bought during a late night Amazon spree.
And if you’re a parent, that often means moving some toys to the attic or basement. And when they don’t mention them for a month, consider it divine permission to donate. But don’t forget, you’ll also need to clear out the photos that feature those toys, or risk an emotional avalanche when your kid discovers them years later thanks to Google memories.
Even if it’s just your old clothes, letting go is hard. After all, the perfect event to wear those seven year old shoes is obviously just around the corner…right? The thing that softens the blow is knowing everything you donate is going to someone who really needs it, and will probably love it more than you ever did.
So here’s a roundup of great local spots happy to give your items a second life:
Favarh Thrift Shop - Canton
Favarh accepts men’s and women’s clothing, children’s clothes, shoes, housewares, linens, and even small furniture or collectibles. Everything should be clean and in good condition, but the best part? Your donations directly support people with developmental disabilities in the Valley. It’s a win-win: declutter and do good.
GreenDrop – West Hartford
GreenDrop is a one stop drop off for clothes, shoes, books, media, toys, small appliances, and more. If it’s clean, usable, and ready for a new home, they’ll likely take it. Quick and convenient, it’s perfect when spring cleaning hits and you realize your attic has become a time capsule.
Gifts of Love - Avon
This local charity accepts in season clothing, shoes, linens, baby gear, and household items. Donations go directly to families in need, so you can declutter knowing someone will genuinely appreciate what you’re passing along. Giving back has never felt so satisfying.
Brian's Angels Homeless Outreach - Bristol
Got coats, blankets, or winter gear you no longer use? Brian’s Angels takes clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, blankets, sleeping bags, and even toiletries or non-perishable food. Your gently used items go directly to people who need them most, turning your “maybe someday” clutter into immediate help.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore – Bloomfield
Got bigger items to donate? Habitat’s ReStore takes furniture, home accessories, building materials, and other gently used household goods. It’s ideal for clearing out the bulky stuff you’ve been holding onto “just in case,” while supporting a cause that builds homes in the community.
💌 Spread the fun! Forward The Valley Verve to friends who love discovering the Valley.
