The Simsbury Carnival is Back

The St. Mary’s Church Spring Carnival is officially back on Ironhorse Boulevard in Simsbury from May 28th through May 30th. It’s still the best way to kick off the season, and a four decade tradition packed with food, rides, and actual community energy that brings the whole Valley out. If you have kids, or just really want some fried dough, grab a $35 unlimited ride wristband and enjoy the evening. So check out the link for details, grab your crew, and we'll see you by the Ferris wheel.

Sipping into Spring

Before moving to Connecticut, I spent 10 years in Boston, and one thing was always true: come spring, people love to gather outdoors with a beer or a glass of wine. There’s something about a warm day that makes sipping outside feel like an activity in itself. Beer gardens, in particular, always felt special, like a tiny garden you could actually enjoy, without any of the work of a real one. You weren’t just drinking; you were “tending” to your beer, sitting at a communal table, soaking up the sun, and, depending on the size of the venue, maybe even tossing a frisbee.

It was also the easiest way to get together with friends. No one had to host; you just showed up, grabbed a pint, and the afternoon happened naturally. Now in the Valley, that tradition continues. Patios and tasting rooms come alive as the coats come off, filling with laughter, music, and the gentle clink of glasses. Whether you’re craving a crisp IPA, a fruity rosé, or a crafty mocktail, here are some of the best local spots to toast the season.

5 Great Spots to Sip This Spring

New Park Brewing (West Hartford) – A hometown favorite with a cozy taproom and a bright, sunny patio. Beers rotate often, and their community events give it that “everyone knows your name” vibe. They frequently host live music in their Green Room, bands with original tunes and tribute acts playing your favorite songs.

WeHa Brewing & Roasting Company (West Hartford) – Coffee lovers and beer enthusiasts unite! This small batch coffee roaster and craft brewery lets you grab a cup, a pint, or both, depending on your timing, and soak up the sunny patio with friends.

Talcott Mountain Collective (Simsbury) – Nestled near the base of Talcott Mountain, this open air beer garden pairs local brews with food trucks, live music, and mountain views. It’s the perfect spot to spend the afternoon, and bonus: Tower Ridge Disc Golf is right next door.

Rosedale Farms & Vineyards (Simsbury) – Seasonal stunner! Start with a wine flight, then wander the blooming grounds. The farmstand opens in late spring, perfect for a fresh snack to go with your vino. They also host outdoor music and Max Restaurant’s Chef to Farm dinner party series, which runs all growing season long.

GastroPark (West Hartford) – A lively outdoor spot to grab a local beer or cider alongside rotating gourmet food trucks. Perfect for groups, casual outings, or just soaking up the spring sun with a pint in hand. They also host themed trivia nights, fun classes like sushi-making, even thrift markets.
