Tower Toot Festival

I’ve hiked Heublein Tower a few times, and somehow managed to do it wrong every single one. Once it was icy as if the incline was actually a skating rink and I spent the whole hike whisper praying my way up and down. Another time, I was too focused on hitting a step count to win a fitness competition (that I ended up losing) that I didn’t even stop to notice the view.
The most recent hike was with my daughter on a day off from school. Her motivation was simple: the views…and lunch after. That’s when it clicked, this hike would be perfect if we put those two things together.
Enter Tower Toot Festival: for two days in October, the summit of Talcott Mountain becomes exactly that: music, food, drinks, community, and the kind of “peak” experience that makes the climb worth it.
Honestly? This might be the year I finally get it right.
What You’re Hiking For
Tower Toot Festival returns October 17 & 18, transforming the Heublein Tower summit into a fall celebration that somehow feels both festive and peaceful. Once you reach the top, you’ll find:
Live music
Food and drinks available for purchase
Sweeping foliage views that may make your phone storage nervous
A laid back, celebratory atmosphere that feels earned in the best way
It’s not just a festival, it’s one of the Friends of Heublein Tower’s two annual fundraisers, supporting the preservation and restoration of this iconic landmark. So yes, you’re treating yourself…but you’re also doing something objectively good.
The Walk to Get There (Worth It, I Promise)
Now for the fine print: the Tower Trail is 1.25 miles from the parking area. Plan for a 30–40 minute walk to the summit. Wear hiking boots or sneakers, don’t try this with ballet flats. Bring water and take your time because the walk is part of the experience, especially when you know music and snacks are waiting at the top.
Why It Matters
Heublein Tower doesn’t maintain itself. The Friends of Heublein Tower rely entirely on volunteers, visitors, and donations to preserve the tower and its surrounding grounds. Every dollar donated goes 100% toward tower related projects, from restoration to upkeep, so your fun literally helps keep this local icon standing.
